If you haven’t read a book recently, you really need to. I know, for those of us that don’t read this is a daunting task, but luckily the book world is so large that there has to be a book out there for you to read in your free time. Reading helps us strengthen our minds and escape to new and different worlds. I understand that during school it can be hard to read since you’re homework is already required reading, but this summer when school’s out, try reading a book. Don’t know where to start? Here’s a list of five books that are popular right now for you to read.
Everything, Everything by Nicole Yoon. You’re probably seen movie trailers for this book already, but you should absolutely read the book before it comes out. It’s been a New York Times bestseller and is a huge hit with teens right now. The book follows a girl, Madeline who isn’t allowed to leave her house due to her medical conditions and a boy, Olly who has just moved in across the street and befriends her. There are tons of twists and turns in this wonderful debut young adult novel.
Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman. This is for girls who like to dive a bit more into the world of Thor and Loki, most well known from the Marvel Universe. I’m currently reading this and love everything about it. It covers many of the main tales from Norse (Vikings) mythology.
The Selection by Kiera Cass. This is a series of books following a girl who has just found out that she was selected. Now she gets to try to win the heart of the prince and live a life full of glamor and ball gowns. I’ve started this book and it was actually really good. Sadly I haven’t had time to finish, but if you do let me know how it is!
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson. This one follows a girl who’s family decides that they want to spend a summer up in the mountains together. Taylor eventually sees that the people she thought she had lost aren’t actually gone, especially her first boyfriend. It’s a young adult romance book that’s bound to be perfect for reading on the beach.
I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Twins are the main characters of this book, being torn apart by differences in different boys. One has isolated herself and fallen head over heels for the boy next door, and the other had fallen for the bad boy at school. Supposedly it’s a hilarious book full of funny one-liners and each twin only knowing half of the story.
Get to reading this summer! You won’t have any excuse, except maybe work, to avoid reading. There’s no more homework and nothing to do, so why not break out a beach towel and read one of these books in the sun. Roam around your local bookstore until you finally find something you’d love to read, then sit down and enjoy.
